August 30-31, 2019

Journeys east from Tucson usually involve a very early flight. Our 5:27am flight meant we were going to have to get up in the middle of the night, close up the house while still in a sleepy fog, and hopefully find an UBER driver with insomnia. A friend gave us a good idea yesterday. Spend the night at an airport hotel with a Park and Stay option. So that is what we did today.

It worked great. We got up at a ‘less’ unreasonable hour of 4am for the one-minute drive to departures. Since it is quiet Tucson, and we have our boarding passes, and with our new Global Entry pass, we are through Security and at the gate literally in minutes. We could have slept in another half hour!

We make it to Chicago with seven hours until our next flight. We are flying Business for the next leg, so we spend the long layover in one of the many First Class Lounges at the International Terminal. That means we get comfy seats, fast Internet and free food and drinks. It is so easy to become accustomed to this pampered life.

At dinnertime we board our Air Portugal flight to Lisbon.
