Aimee and I took a quick trip back to the Midwest for a family wedding and to see my mom. The wedding reception was held in downtown Milwaukee at the stately old Wisconsin Club next to Marquette University. It was a nice party with a beautiful bride, our handsome nephew, good eats and tasty New Glarus beer.
Before heading back to Tucson we spent a couple nights with my sister and brother-in-law in St Louis. Last night we took the opportunity to attend a Cardinal baseball game, something I haven't done since I was much younger. After parking downtown, we walked to the stadium, passing through a nice sculpture park. This new Busch Stadium, built in 2006, is one of the many retro baseball parks being built today. In front are a bunch of bronze statues of Cardinal Greats. From my era, were Bob Gibson, Lou Brock and more recently Ozzie Smith.
The World Series is approaching and we are two games out of First Place. We need to have a long winning streak to pull this season out. The game starts fast with a Cincinnati Red Home Run on the first pitch. Fortunately the Cardinals are hot and score runs almost every inning finishing with a wild 13-4 win. We have great seats behind third base. We are forced to stay alert and watch the game as foul balls bounce all around us.
Back in Tucson, we are greeted with lingering Summer heat. Aimee and I are immediately missing the refreshing temperatures of early Fall in the Midwest.
